God’s Path…Not Mine

Lord, please keep me on the path You’ve laid out for me. Continue to guide and lead me and keep me from straying off Your path.
This is a prayer I’ve prayed many times for myself and for others.

God has a plan and He has placed me on the path He wants me to be on.

Sometimes the path is straight and I can see ahead.

Other times, the path twists and turns. I can’t see what’s coming in front of me, and that makes me nervous. I can’t control what I can’t see.

And that’s the point. I can’t control what I can’t see, but God can—He sees it all.

He knows where He’s leading me and where I’ve been.

He knows how the past will prepare me for the future.

God knows how my path will intersect someone else’s path. Maybe the two paths will run parallel for a time, or maybe they cross for what seems like only a moment.

He knows because the plan is His, and when I lay down my will for His, I can fully experience all He has prepared for me.
“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11 NLT

  1. Thanks for this reminder that it's so important to trust even when we can't see the way ahead. (visiting from Gypsy Mama)

  2. Someone else I just read wrote of getting that angst from not seeing the path clearly into the distance ahead, and I feel the same. I guess it must be a common thing. But if God wants us to learn to walk by faith, He isn't likely to display the whole route to our sight. You put this so well, and I love how it led up to the Jeremiah verse. God bless you on your path!

    1. Thank you Sylvia for visiting and for your comment! I often wish God would tell me what's coming up, but at the same time I'm glad He doesn't. If I like it, I won't want to wait, and if I don't like it, I would worry or be sad before it even happens. God bless!

  4. This post has gone right to my heart tonight Laura. It is so apt that you could have been listening to a personal situation.

"Apples of gold in pictures of silver."

I am going to print it out and place it in my Bible because I know it's from Papa!

    1. Your comment blessed me Wendy! I love how God works through us to reach others. Often we won't know how He's working, but what an awesome feeling when He gives us a glimpse. :)

  5. "I will go before you and make the crooked places straight." This is one of my favorite promises--God gave it to me as a teenager. I love your words, Laura. And I love that God straightens the curves or sticks with us when we are traveling them.

  7. Such an excellent post. I really enjoyed reading this. I like these "Five Minute Fridays." I did it once but couldn't remember where it had come from (except from Wendy ;-) so it was nice to see you participate. Now I will have it for next Friday. This was an encouragement.

  8. Thank you for sharing this encouraging post. It's something we always need to remember. When we can't see what's ahead we can be sure that He knows exactly what is there and He knows how to handle it. We just need to trust Him.
    Blessings,
    Charlotte
