8 Verses for When You Need to Remember God is Fighting for You

Life often takes me to my knees. Lately, however, I feel as if I’ve barely been able to stand up before it knocks me down again.

I’ve thought about just staying down—playing dead—so maybe the enemy will move on and leave me alone. But, that doesn’t settle well with me. It feels like giving up.

I’m learning though, that it is possible to not give up, but to stay low while I catch my breath. All the while, staying as close to God as possible. Fortunately, He’s not concerned with personal space, so He doesn’t mind if I cling to Him constantly and lean on Him hard. In fact, He encourages it!

I’ve been reminded that the Lord is fighting this battle. {Tweet this} It feels like it’s all on my shoulders, but I’m trying to let Him take the weight from me.

I imagine you might know what I’m talking about…when the weight of the battle feels like it will crush you. Lean in to Him with me. Let Him strengthen you and protect you. He is fighting the battle! {Tweet this}

8 Scripture verses for when you need to remember He is fighting for you…

The Lord himself will fight for you. Just stay calm.

Then I said to you, “Do not be terrified; do not be afraid of them. The Lord your God, who is going before you, will fight for you, as he did for you in Egypt, before your very eyes, and in the wilderness. There you saw how the Lord your God carried you, as a father carries his son, all the way you went until you reached this place.”

He will say to them, ‘Listen to me, all you men of Israel! Do not be afraid as you go out to fight your enemies today! Do not lose heart or panic or tremble before them. For the Lord your God is going with you! He will fight for you against your enemies, and he will give you victory!

Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”

For you equipped me with strength for the battle; you made those who rise against me sink under me.

Don’t be afraid, for I am with you.  Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.

Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places. Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm.

So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?”

What verse do you turn to when life feels like a battle?

In Christ,
Laura

  1. Oh sister I hear you. That whole being knocked down and not even being able to dust off before it happens again has been several years of my life. My new blog is an attempt to dust off again and believe in myself, my dreams, and hopefully increase my faith that the Lord does want good things for me and my family and that he will stand by me to help me succeed the right way. I turn to Thes: and continually pray without ceasing. Yeah some nights I feel like I'm on auto replay.

  2. Dear Laura, thank you for your tranparency! Sometimes it is so hard to keep getting up. And sadly, sometimes we forget God continues to reach out to us through His word. All of these scriptures are tucked into my spiritual toolbelt, but perhaps my favorite is from Isaiah. He promises not to just pick us up, but show us victory. How great is that! Prayers and blessings for your journey from your neighbor at God-Sized Dreams.

  3. Laura,
So glad I stopped by. I would have to say Exodus 14:14 and Isaiah 41:10 are verses I keep in my spiritual "Emergency Kit" - verses I turn to when the storms are raging. It is so comforting to know that the Lord suits us up in protective armor and then says, "Stand here...be still....remain calm and I will fight for you!!!" So thankful we serve a Lord and Savior who takes our battles upon Himself as His own. Left alone, I'm toast, but with Jesus, I am more than a conqueror. Will definitely need to add some more of these verses to my "kit".
    Blessings,
    Bev xx

  4. I’m learning though, that it is possible to not give up, but to stay low while I catch my breath. This is wise actually. It taken some years for me to learn this because I am a Martha and a type A who thinks life is not worth living unless I am busy, busy, busy even when I am hurting or struggling. But staying low does allow one to catch their breathe and seek His face before getting back into the battle. I love all the scriptures you posted, and have leaned hard on each one at different times. there is no better place to lean then on Him, He can hold us up when we need to be held up and come low when we need to get low. Thank you for such an honest post.

  7. "Fortunately, He’s not concerned with personal space, so He doesn’t mind if I cling to Him constantly and lean on Him hard. In fact, He encourages it!" This is great, Laura. :)
Love all these verses, too. They are many of my favorites too. Of late, two favorites are Psalm 27:3,
"Though an army encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war arise against me, yet I will be confident"
and Psalm 27:13 "I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living!"

  8. Laura, this is such a good reminder. We all need an arsenal of verses for those days we feel the battle warring. Just yesterday I read, "I praise your name for your unfailing love and faithfulness; for your promises are backed by all the honor of your name." (Psalm 138:2, NLT) Thank you for this post!

  9. Laura, these verses are all so well chosen. Like you, I have a tendency to want to strap on that armor and fight the battle on my own, when God is saying "Stand still. I will fight for you."

  10. Laura,it's such a great reminder that the Lord Himself will fight my battle for me! I liked your idea of lying low and letting the Lord fight while you cling to Him.

These verses are good to have close by for all the battles and trials we go through. We can rest in Him while the battle rages on. I think I'll make some Scripture cards of these verses.

It's so good to see you are still blogging and writing in many places. It's been quite awhile since I've been here because I haven't been writing much. Good to see you again.
    Blessings,l

  11. Hi Laura! I love these scriptures you shared. Isaiah 41:10 is my absolute favourite. We learned a song about it when we were kids and it still fills me with courage and strength when I sing it even now. The song is in my native language, Igbo, and "Do not be dismayed" is translated as "Do not look around in fear (terrified)". So much happens to make us do that but God assures that He will uphold us with His right hand of righteousness. Awesome! (Faith and Friends)

  12. Exodus 14:14 has been my mantra lately as I am going through a situation that calls for me to remain quiet. Thanks for all of these...they bring comfort, strength and perspective.
