Trusting That the Words Will Come Again

For the past week, I’ve felt unable to write. I want to write. I’ve made plans to write. Ideas have even formulated in my head, but only when I was unable to grab paper and pen or find a laptop.

When I sit down to write, the words don’t come. My mind goes blank. I pour through Scripture. I stare at the blank screen. The paper remains inkless.

I’ve been staring out the window a lot. Thinking. Praying. But my thoughts don’t make it into sentences and paragraphs for you to read.

As I’ve been reading friends’ blogs, and even some of my own posts, hoping for inspiration, I remembered my One Word for 2012TRUST.

Trust.

I feel discouraged. I feel frustrated. But I’ve decided not to worry. I have to trust that when I’m supposed to write again, God will give me the topic, the ideas, and maybe even the words. He has before. I trust that He will again.
Commit everything you do to the LORD. Trust him, and he will help you. (Psalm 37:5 NLT)
How about you? Have you ever felt this way? Will you share by leaving a comment?

In Christ,
Laura

  1. Oh Laura,
I feel this way right now. Some of my posts have been nothing. Then I think, should I even post when I am not happy with them? Or should I keep trying? Tough.
Hang in there. There are many of us right now!

  3. I feel this way. If it wasn't for my guest posts this month, and the Wednesday and Sunday link ups, I wouldn't blog at all. I have been trying to slow down and hear His voice. I know He must have words for me, to pour forth from my heart, yet still they don't come. Keep trusting. He will release those words in due time!

  5. Hi Laura - I am learning (slowly but surely) that trust is the only way to go. I drive myself insane not trusting! Even though you don't feel you had anything so say, what you said was encouragement for many! Goal achieved :)

  6. Sometimes we get a dry spell where words are not available, that is ok. Good things will come later after a season of rest. Gather your thoughts, don't be discouraged...note what you would LIKE to write about, and then wait.
    It will happen.

  8. Every week! I never know until the morning of what I'm going to write about, usually. I pray about it and either from scripture or something in my life does a post form slowly. Sometimes though it takes a couple of days to get it written. Sometimes it's not very pretty, but I still have to get the words out. Taking a break is good too, it refreshes us. Keep praying, you will know soon what you should say.

  9. Hi Laura,

I agree with Nikki. That is a great post that many people can relate to, even if we aren't writers. It may not be what you wanted to write. It may be that it's what God wanted you to write. Now maybe He just wants you to take a break & rest a little while, and then the words will come again.

  10. Most definitely! I think that most of us have had a temporary "writer's block" form time to time! You are right to trust God in this...and everything! I think that often when this happens, God wants us to be still before Him. He may want to refill your cup! Blessings, Joan

  11. Oh yes! I feel that way regularly and I've resigned myself to the fact that words matter so much to the Lord. He gave us HIS WORD to impress on our hearts His truth. Words have incredible value. So, I've decided that when I don't have words to share, it is either because the Lord has something to speak to me and I need to be listening more closely to Him. Or, He doesn't want my words in the way of someone else directly hearing Him. Writing by the spirit's leading has been so freeing for me. Of course, I still have panicky drive spells, which eventually drives me back to the cross.

    Blessings,
    Lisa

  13. Sometimes you just need to come aside and rest a while. Writers 'upload' from their heart unto others often and sometimes, it's just time to rest a while and receive a 'download' from others yourself. Spiritually re-charge your batteries in the Lord... "Give... and it shall be given unto you..." You have been giving, giving, giving... now take a little time out to receive God's abundance and hopefully, you will re-charge very soon.
