One Word and The New Year

Usually by now I have two articles written and shared with you—the first one about my One Word for last year, and the second about my One Word for this year. I have neither written.

My word for 2018 was Enough. When the year began I thought I had an idea of what it meant, but as the year went on, I realized it meant so much more. I think I’m still processing it all because it feels like more than I can put into words to share. At times that frustrates me, but then I think parts are meant to stay between me and God. {Tweet this}

This year I have two words. (Neither of which I’m ready to share right now. Sorry friends.) One day I would feel one and the next day the other would jump off the page. Each day went back and forth. I couldn’t decide and I didn’t feel God making one more obvious than the other. And then I realized maybe He wants me to have both—one to keep me grounded in Him, and the other to help me step out in faith.

Two words meant to work together. That felt right to me.

There was no more back and forth, just two words worked into one phrase to guide me through the year.

Do you have a word for 2019? Have you ever felt like it was something between you and God and not meant to be shared? (If you have, I think that’s okay. It’s kind of neat to have a secret with God.)

In Christ,
Laura

  2. Two words definitely work. I thought mine was GRACE and then God totally changed that on New Year's Day and He wrote FAVOR. So, in true Enneagram style, "My one word is Favor with a Grace wing!" Glad to see you in the linkup today, Laura. (((xo)))

  3. Laura, I love that you have two words that will work together this year. I think you hit it right - it is what feels right for you, and how God has led you. May He bless you as you go through this year!

  4. Feeling grounded and stepping out of your comfort zones are both wonderful ideas. I think 2 words is a great idea! This is the first year I heard God's direction for me in selecting a word. My word is "balance". Good to hear from you again!

  5. I can see how "enough" would be a challenging word to live your way in to last year. And it's good to hear your voice again!

  6. I understand completely! God gave me a one word directive just before New Year's Day. New Year's morning, He gave me two words that stuck with me for days. I decided, this year, I have a word and a separate two-word phrase. His Holy Spirit guides us, and who makes up the rules on "the word for the year" anyway? Ha! I enjoyed your post and understand your decision to not share your words quite yet.

  7. I love this, Laura! Sometimees it is just between us and Jesus, and that's sweeter than any words we could share.

  8. This is my 2nd year of not having a word. Last year was due to Kenneth being terminally ill and this is where I must say, "I just have no word." BUT...I do have the Word and He seems to be wanting me in it far more than I have been. So that is where I am for 2019. Glad to come by and will be back for the reveal of the 2 words!!

  10. I chose Hope this year . . . because he alone is my hope, an anchor firm and secure - a personal hope!
