My One Word 2015

This is my fourth year of choosing a One Word for the year. Or I should say, God choosing a word for me.

My first year was Trust and I readily accepted it. Next was Praise. I pushed back on praise because I didn't really get it. (Which is why I suppose God gave it to me, right?) But by the end of the year, I got it.

Last year was harder. He whispered Let Go...and it scared me. A lot. I asked Him to reconsider. Maybe I heard wrong. But no, 2014 was a year of letting go of so much of what was normal.

My One Word for this year?

Renew.

The word kept coming to mind around Christmas, and even though I had been asking God what my word would be, I didn't make the connection until He whispered it to me during worship one evening.

Renew. I was reminded that God can renew anything. And it felt comforting…especially after a year of letting go.

Maybe you could use the reminder too. God can renew anything—so much more than what we can even think to ask for.

God can do anything, you know—far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! He does it not by pushing us around but by working within us, his Spirit deeply and gently within us. Ephesians 3:20 The Message

What do you need God to renew in your life?

Your faith? He will.

Your health? He can.

Your marriage or family? He is able.

Renew...to bring back to life...to make new again.

In His time and in His way. Nothing is impossible for Him, no matter how impossible it looks to us.

Will you join me in waiting on God and watching for all the ways He will bring about renewal?

  1. HI Laura! I'm visiting from Give Me Grace. This is only my second year of oneword365. Last year it was "enjoy." This year is "intentional." I realized that with all the things in my life, I was mainly just taking things as they come. The word "intentional" just kept jumping out at me in many places, and I realized that it would be me word. I love your word "renew." It is full of possibilities. I pray God will renew your life in many ways in His timing, and bless you.

  3. Renew is such an awesome concept, Laura. I'm sure God will do amazing things through it with you this year! I look forward to reading more about it. It's not a word I've chosen myself, but definitely one I should consider.

  4. Love reading others people one words. Mine is stillness. Reading your post I wasn't surprised at all with the word renew for you - seems like an obvious follow up to let go. I wonder how last year's word will feed into this year word.?

  6. Trust. Praise. Let Go. Renew. I love the succession of the words Gods given you. You could minister a whole sermon right there. After discipline in 2014, God gave me slow. I'm grateful for it. Thanks for linking up.

  7. What a beautiful word for the New Year, Laura. I am so grateful that he CAN renew anything. He certainly has done this over and over in my life. My one word for 2015 is "see." It's the first year I've chosen a word. I was inspired by 2 Cor. 4:18

  10. Hi Laura - just popping by from #tellhisstory. Renew is such a wonderful word - full of hope and promise. He is a God of renewal and restoration and I'm looking forward to reading how He renews in your life. My word for the year is brave - committing to not allowing fear to seat itself but instead take big, brave steps with the Lord, for the Lord. Thank you for sharing.
