“Day Nine: Coming Alive in Confidence” is my favorite. I
keep going back to it, rereading, and highlighting more…and yesterday, I had
another “aha” moment.
The times you feel you are in the desert, God will provide for you, protect you, and position you towards the Promised Land. – Jennifer Hand, 31 Days to Coming Alive
I read that and thought, “Yes, that’s how I feel, like I’m
in walking in the desert, with a sandstorm blowing and threatening to knock me
over.”
I reread Jenn’s sentence again and thought about manna
floating down from the sky for the Israelites when they were in the desert. God
provided, and the Israelites knew that, but after time, they got tired of
manna. They focused on their frustration and complained about the way God was
providing.
How often do I miss God’s provision and protection because
I’m too focused on my own frustration and the situation I am in?
Or the times I miss seeing God in the small things because
the big answer I have in mind is the only solution I can see?
Probably all too often.
When is the last time you saw God clear the way for small
steps in the desert, even while the sand continued to swirl?

Needed to hear this today, sweet Laura... It's been a desert-ish last couple of weeks with sickness hitting our household hard... It has taken some hard prayer and looking, but I can see God at work in the midst of this. Thanks for this reminder. Love you, girl.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sharita. Sounds like we've both been walking in the desert lately. God bless!
DeleteA great pause for thought, Laura. It really spoke into my circumstances. There is a temptation to want to see the big answers manifesting and fail to spot the many small ways God is already revealing His care and faithfulness.
ReplyDeleteAs a wilderness wanderer for more years than I can count, I long to shake off sand and move on. Yet I cannot deny how much God is teaching me right where I am and that His timing is perfect. I will come through the hard places one day, but meanwhile I can check my attitude is one of peace and resting trust in His will and ways. Thank you for this needful reminder. Bless you :)
Thank you Joy. I'm glad it spoke to you. There are so many little things we can miss if we're only focused on the end result. Blessings to you!
DeleteThis post really spoke to my heart. I can become so focused on wandering in the dessert, that I forget to see that He's with me there. He's always been faithful, even during those times where I feel as if I'm not bearing fruit. I don't want to ever miss His provision.
ReplyDeleteThanks Barbie. Isn't it helpful to look back and see where God provided in the desert? It helps me remember to keep watching for His work in my life no matter where I am.
