More of Him…Less of Me

A God-sized Dream is a desire in your heart for more of what God has for you. ~Holley Gerth

Holley’s question for this week:
What do you really want more of in your life? Will you dare to say it out loud? Hint: it probably means having less of something too {ex: more joy, less stress}.”

Last week, I put my God-sized dream here in writing…to continue expressing hope and encouragement to the hearts of women through writing and speaking caring, sensitive, and honest words.

What I want more of in my life is an open heart and mind for what God has planned.

I want to not get stuck within my comfort zone.

I want to step out in faith wherever and whenever God leads me.

Two years ago, God led me to start my blog and an online Bible study for women. Oh yeah, He took me way outside of my comfort zone. Although He may have had to drag and shove me at times, I loved where He was leading.

Then about a month ago, as the first study of this year was nearing its end, my energy and enthusiasm were at a low. I started to wonder if God was telling me to take a break.

Days later, God confirmed it. I was relieved. And confused.

Was God telling me I need to spend more time with Him and regroup before hosting another study, or was He turning me in a different direction on the path He has me on?

I don’t have that answer yet.

I know what I can’t get out of my head, though…

I want to keep writing—on my blog and in guest posts, and maybe that will lead to freelance writing.

I feel God leading me to grow my leadership skills. And I wonder if that will lead to one day speaking to women.

What will there be less of? Me trying to control these things.

Don’t get me wrong, I will take advantage of opportunities that come my way, but I won’t force them.

I will step out in faith when God leads me to do so. But if He’s not leading, I won’t rush ahead and expect Him to catch up to me.

More of Him…and less of me.

That’s what I want.

A God-sized dream isn’t about what you do as much as how you do it. It’s about pursuing life with passion, purpose, and going with God wherever he leads.

How about you?

What’s your God-sized dream?

In Christ,

  1. We all need times of rest and renewal. I too did a Bible study (in my home), feeling led by God, but the next one was cancelled unexpectedly by my church, and I was confused... but I waited. Now my husband and I are starting a small group from our church, in our home, and we are doing it together, which is even better than me doing it alone. So be patient and keep praying, and God will show you what is next.

  2. More of Him.... that's what I want, too. Keep seeking! :)

  3. "But if He’s not leading, I won’t rush ahead and expect Him to catch up to me." Good and Godly advice! Thank you, friend!

  4. Yes! This. I love this! I have this little 'deal' with God... when I first started feeling a clear call... I told Him I would not self-promote. A rather bold (and maybe somewhat ignorant) statement. But at the heart of it - is exactly what you said... I will not MAKE a way for me - but allow Him to lead the way for me! Praying for you as we lean in to these God-Sized Dreams together!

    1. Thank you Karrilee! It's been so good to have encouragement from our group, and go through it together.

  5. Sounds like a solid calling to me. Even Jesus got publicly anointed, then went off to the wilderness for 40 days for some alone-with-God-and-off-the-radar time. Praying God would solidify it ever more in this listening season. Blessings!

    1. Laurie, thank you so much for your encouraging comment. I hadn't thought of what you pointed out, but you're right. Jesus went through the time alone and time of testing and temptation in preparation for His ministry. God bless!

  6. Laura, this is just great. I'm so thankful for you sharing what God is doing in your heart during this season, and I can't wait to see where He leads you from here! Also...congrats on winning the give away! So fun! :-)

    1. Thank you Anne. It was quite a surprise to see my name among the winners. :) Blessings to you!

  7. I can certainly identify with you. I tend to stay in my comfort zone too. I feel safer there but it's not where God intends for us to be. I think you're a wonderful encourager of women. I pray that God will stretch you as I know He will use you to impact others. Looking forward to hearing all about your God sized dream. I have one myself that is in the works.

    Blessings and love,

  8. "I will step out in faith when God leads me to do so. But if He’s not leading, I won’t rush ahead and expect Him to catch up to me."

This is so wise, Laura. I want to step through the open doors with obedience, but I never want to push any doors open.

May your season of rest bring a renewed vision for the calling on your life.

You are a gifted communicator. I can't wait to see how the Lord leads you, my friend.

  9. Stopping by from Weekend Brew...A dream after God's own heart, I know he is and will lead you on... Blessings on your writing!

  10. So beautifully said my friend. The waiting can be hard, especially in the in between, but I know your heart is pointed toward Him and He will keep leading you. Much rest, peace and strength to you my friend!

Thank you for sharing your thoughts!
