So…where do
you put your faith?
Do you put
your faith in yourself? Others? Fate? Luck? Or maybe a little of each for good
measure? When we place our faith in any of these we set ourselves on unstable
ground.
As imperfect
humans, we disappoint ourselves and others, just as other people disappoint us.
At times we think we can handle it all on our own, but can we? We struggle to
even live up to our own expectations, so how can others live up to our
expectations?
Fate and
luck depend on something unknown, something abstract that we cannot define.
They have no substance, no solid ground. If we put our faith in these, how do
we really know what we’re depending on? Or where we’ll end up?
“Faith is not a principle of ‘name it and claim it,’ It’s based on the person of Jesus Christ.” (Micca Campbell, An Untroubled Heart)
Jesus is
the only one worthy of our faith, hope, and trust. When we put our faith in
Christ, we find ourselves on a firm foundation that will not change. He is the
most solid ground we will ever find.
For this is contained in Scripture: “Behold, I lay in Zion a choice stone, a precious corner stone, and he who believes in Him will not be disappointed.” 1 Peter 2:6 NASB
Christ is
the solid foundation, the cornerstone, of our Christian faith, and He is the
only One I want to put my personal faith in.
Does faith
in Jesus mean life will always go the way I want? No, Scripture tells us that
in this life there will be trouble. (John 16:33) But I know Jesus walks with me
to comfort and guide me.
Relying on
anything or anyone other than Jesus leaves us tossing around in the wind, without an
anchor to keep us grounded. Jesus is our anchor. Whether the winds are calm, or
the storms of life are upon us, He is right there with us. He knows where we’ve
been and where He plans for us to go. Our faith in Him keeps us calm and secure
along the way.
Our lives
are not left up to chance. God has a plan for each of us. (Jeremiah 29:11)
Sometimes it seems like nothing is happening—like we’re just waiting, but we
don’t know what we’re waiting for. It may feel that way, but God is at work!
During that time of waiting, God is preparing us for what He has planned. And
what He has planned for us is better than anything we can imagine.

ReplyDeleteI've found that instead of rehearsing my problems or running ahead of God by trying to figure out what's in my future, rest comes when I acknowledge that God IS in the details of my life and He wants the best for me.
Most would say "that's easier said than done." But choosing to have faith--just doing it--just taking that step to trust God is what releases faith's magic making what's hard to do easy. Make sense?
Absolutely makes sense! Having faith and completely trusting God in all areas of my life, doesn't mean I won't be disappointed or sad. But knowing He's in control reassures me, and my faith grows even stronger. I find hope in looking back at how He's answered prayers and taken care of me in the past. I have no reason to question if God is in the details of my daily life!

ReplyDeleteThis is so true. Too many times I have tried to rely on my own abilities and I fall short. Jesus will never fail us.

ReplyDeleteI've found myself obediently waiting on God but at the same time excusing things in my life... Unknowns bother me so, I try to figure out my future! It's pointless. God's been so patient with me. He's teaching me stuff and thanks for the reminder to be single-minded and depend on Him 100% in the big and small stuff.

I also find myself trying to figure out what the future holds, what God is moving me towards. Usually, when I look back, I see that where He moved me was not where I expected. It's better!

Boy, Laura, I couldn't agree more. It isn't enough to just have faith. Everyone has faith in something or someone. Thank you for telling it so well where that faith must be centered.
