God’s Word is Clear, But It’s Not Easy

I’m joining the Five Minute Friday community with Kate Motaung…5 minutes, no rewriting, and a one word prompt…

God's Word is clear, but it's not easy. Oh, it's So. Not. Easy.

It might be easier to follow Jesus if I could get out of my own way, but time and time again, I trip over myself.

What I want blocks the way when I'm trying to live by God's will. I have to find a way around, over, or through my own obstacles.

My emotions get the better of me when I'm trying to hold my tongue, and words I wish I hadn't said were indeed said.

I have to keep reminding myself to give grace to others. How can I keep forgetting this?

And to forgive others the way God forgives me...I should write this on sticky notes and surround myself with them.

Following God's word is not easy, especially when I rely on my own strength and memory. But in God's strength, it all becomes a little clearer. And God's reminders are more gentle than my own.

God says, "Here's what you should do and how you should act." And then He says, "And I will help you. Just stay by My side."

In Christ,

  1. This is exactly what I needed to see at this very moment as not more than three minutes ago, while doing my link-ups and having a poor attitude, bothered by distractions in my mind while reflecting on the Pastor's sermon this morning and seeing how woefully short I am coming from following God's Word daily, these words were like a balm, a reminder that although I do get in my own way, The Lord's way is easy and He is always ready to say, "Karen, this is the way, walk in it..." I need to respond, Lord help me to do so.

Thank you so much for the encouragement.

    1. Thank you Karen, your comment means a lot to me. Blessings to you!

  2. Tripping over myself....oh how I've found that over and over again. So much THIS: "I will help you. Stay by my side." I'm over in the #6 spot this week.

  3. Ah yes—He is with us every step of the way! Crazy how we forget that sometimes... thanks for the lovely reminder! Stopping by from Counting My Blessing :)

  4. This is so beautiful. It's important to let God lead us on our journey of following His word. Indeed, God's word isn't easy. I just started in a Bible-in-a-year program through E-mail and am sometimes angry with God for what the Bible says, but if I let HIm guide me on understanding it, it's easier.

  5. It's so hard to surrender our way to God's way, isn't it? I really love this truth - "But in God's strength, it all becomes a little clearer. And God's reminders are more gentle than my own." Thank you, Laura. I'm your neighbor at Holley's.

  6. I'm with you! I should write ALL these things on sticky notes! I'm thankful for God's gentle reminders... I just wish He didn't have to remind me so often. Maybe one of these days I'll get it! Maybe. Following you at Crystal's this week. Blessings!
